About  Us

The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board (NCVMB), a state regulatory and consumer protection agency, was created in 1903 by an act of the State Legislature. Our mission is to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of the people and animals of North Carolina.


The NCVMB does this by:

  • Setting standards for the profession through statutes and administrative rules
  • Investigating complaints
  • Ensuring that applicants are qualified for licensure
  • Inspecting veterinary facilities
  • Taking disciplinary action against licensees and registrants when necessary to protect the public

2019 RENEWAL
The renewal window is open!

Vets / Techs / Corps

 

EFFECTIVE: 2020 Renewals
Continuing Education - Two (2) hours of CE on the 'abuse of controlled substances' will be required per renewal cycle. This includes both veterinarians and technicians.

 

Starting with the 2019 renewal 2% of all licensees and registrants will be audited for proof of obtaining their CE. This is a random audit and you will be informed at the time of your renewal if you need to submit proof of your CE.

 

Veterinary License

  • Expires annually
  • RENEWAL STATUS: License is ACTIVE until December 31st; ACTIVE/IMPENDING from January 1st - January 31st; ACTIVE/LATE February 1st - February 29th; REVOKED on March 1st
  • CONTINUING EDUCATION: Proof of twenty (20) hours required each year - Ten (10) on-line hours of training will be accepted during each renewal, however, five (5) of those hours will need to be 'interactive'. Minumum CE Standards .0206



Veterinary Technician Registration

  • Expires biennially (every 2 years) at the end of the year; renewal time is dependent upon the initial year of registration
  • RENEWAL STATUS: License is ACTIVE until December 31st; ACTIVE/IMPENDING from January 1st - January 31st; ACTIVE/LATE February 1st - February 29th; REVOKED on March 1st
  • CONTINUING EDUCATION: Proof of twelve (12) hours required every two (2) years - Six (6) on-line hours of training will be accepted during each renewal, however, three (3) of those hours will need to be 'interactive'.
